Why You Can't Restrict Unnecessary Design Elements Provided by Clients | English for Freelance Designers

Do you, as a freelance developer like Max, dislike clients who insist on unnecessary design elements that clutter the interface, leading to a less intuitive user experience, when designing websites, mobile apps, etc.? Explore a real-life situation with us. Let's foster Business English Communication Skills as we find solutions together!

Min: Welcome to Hocify, where we foster business English communication skills through real-life situations. After the lesson, if you missed something, please check out the description to access the transcript for more details on our website ‘hocify dot com’, along with related tools and resources. Now, let’s dive into today’s challenge!

Max: Hey Min, can we chat about some of the design choices in the app? I’ve noticed a few things that might be causing some confusion for users.

Min: Sure, Max. What’s on your mind?

Max: Well, I wanted to ask you why you feel it’s important to include all these extra design elements in the app?

Min: Oh, I thought it would make the app look really cool and eye-catching. You know, stand out from the crowd.

Max: I see. But why do you think too much stuff on the screen might actually make it harder for users to use the app?

Min: Hmm, I hadn’t thought about that before. I guess I just assumed more is better.

Max: It’s a common assumption. Let me ask you, why do you think simplicity is such a big deal in app design?

Min: Well, I suppose if things are simple, it’s easier for people to figure out how to use the app without getting frustrated.

Max: Exactly. And why do you think we should focus more on what the users need rather than just what looks cool?

Min: Because if users can’t figure out how to use the app easily, they’ll just give up and use something else.

Max: Right. So, why do you think we should prioritize making the app easy and enjoyable to use over making it look fancy?

Min: Because at the end of the day, we want people to actually use the app and find it helpful. Looks aren’t everything if it’s not functional.

Max: Exactly, Min. We want to create an app that people love to use because it’s helpful and easy, not just because it looks flashy. So, let’s work together to find the balance between style and usability. What do you think?

Min: Yeah, I’m on board with that. I hadn’t really thought about it from that perspective before. Thanks for bringing it up, Max.

Max: No problem, Min. I think if we keep the focus on what’s best for the users, we’ll end up with a really great app in the end.

Min: Agreed. Let’s do this!
