Protecting Yourself from Evil Twin Attacks: Stay Aware on Public Wi-Fi

An evil twin attack is a type of cyber attack that involves setting up a fake Wi-Fi access point to trick users into connecting to it instead of a legitimate one. This fake access point often mimics the name and appearance of a real Wi-Fi network, making it difficult to distinguish between the two. This is also known as the evil twin.

Once a user connects to the evil twin, any data they send or receive over the network can be intercepted by the attacker. This can include sensitive information such as login credentials, credit card numbers, and personal emails.

But following a few best practices can help avoid evil twin attacks and data breaches. It is highly crucial to check the Wi-Fi network's name and its security setting before connecting to it. Using a VPN encrypts your network traffic and secures your data from cyber threats.

Regularly updating your software and operation systems helps in preventing vulnerabilities from being exploited by attackers.

Stay vigilant by avoiding the use of public Wi-Fis to stay clear of evil twin attacks. To know more about cybersecurity, stay tuned to StrongBox IT's social media channels.
