Happy International Women's Day, 2022!

"For the first time in the history of #SheCoded, we've partnered up with GitHub to donate $20 to Girls Who Codefor every post we receive as part of this celebration. There's never been a better or more impactful time to participate!"

Each year on DEV, we celebrate International Women's Day with #SheCoded β€” a collection and of stories by women in software and their allies in the DEV community. β€” this celebration is called "#SheCoded".

The official theme of International Women's Day this year is "Break The Bias". While great progress has been made in recent decades towards eliminating the gender gap in tech, we are far from that goal β€” especially for women of color and gender non-conforming individuals. Part of the work we need to do to make our industry a safe and accessible space for everyone is to shed light on the bias facing marginalized communities. We see this theme as an invitation to do exactly that with the powerful stories in our collection.

#SheCoded is focused particularly on the stories of women in tech, but every year, we welcome posts from the entire community, including allies across the gender spectrum. 2022 is no different

For the first time in the history of #SheCoded, we've partnered up with GitHub to donate $20 to Girls Who Codefor every post we receive as part of this celebration. There's never been a better or more impactful time to participate!

Our donation period ends on March 9, 2022 @ 10:59 AM UTC (2:59 AM PT/5:59 AM ET/12:59 PM CET/4:29 AM IST).

Below are just a few stories from the 2022 #SheCoded collection. We encourage you to browse the entire #SheCoded library and contribute your own post today. ❀️

@missamarakay

"Ask me about my career path, my accomplishments, how people management is going, how strategic leadership is going, how I'm finally feeling like I'm an expert in my field. Invite me into your spaces to talk about my expertise. Acknowledge my expertise."

@balapriya

"Since early 2020, I've worked as a technical content writer with 3+ organizations, created 60+ good pieces of technical content. And most importantly, I've learned how each one of us has had an equally inspiring and challenging journey."

@theflorz

"I pledge to break the bias in tech by being myself!! I know what I bring to teams."

@eevajonnapanula

"Challenge elements of the status quo that may perpetuate bias. For example, create connections across differences by finding a mentor or sponsor from a different demographic group than you, joining an ERG as an ally, or facilitating and/or participating in cross-group learning engagement."

@naku_dorei

”Never let anyone dictate your value, worth or capabilities - only you can do that and, even then, question the limitations you place on yourself."

@lyqht

”I'm excited to learn more in-depth about the tech stack [of my project] which comprises of React, React Native, Typescript, Express, Kubernetes, & Azure. I'm also looking forward to building more side projects to learn stuff that I don't get to do at work, and teaching developers like you various concepts through the technical articles that I write.”

@camilaleniss

”I can't even remember when I fell in love with tech world. I was so young. Then, I started in college when I was 17, with many insecurities and many dreams. I can't deny that being the only woman in the room was so intimidating. But instead of telling you about all the times I felt lost, I'll tell you about the times I felt I had a place in this world...”
