Purple-Paper
In the past couple of weeks, I embarked on the journey of building EON. EON is a decentralized application designed to empower women by tracking their health. My goal is to create a menstruation phase tracking DApp.
While there are numerous apps available for tracking menstrual cycles, many of them raise concerns about data privacy and security due to data harvesting practices.
This concept emerged in response to living in the post-Roe v. Wade era, where health tracking and data privacy became significant concerns when using traditional health tracking apps. The idea is to address this pain point reduce the likelihood of user data being used against them and protect their privacy.
EON's smart contract is currently built on Ethereum and Polygon's blockchain, allowing users to calculate each phase. However, during the past few weeks of development, I encountered challenges related to scalability. Ethereum and Polygon's gas fees for each transaction have created a significant barrier to using this smart contract. To address this issue, I explored alternative ways to build and decided to build it using the Substrates framework and realized that the ideal approach is to build this application on Polkadot.
This approach offers numerous benefits, including faster transactions and the elimination of gas fees for users. By referencing Polkadot as the underlying framework, EON can provide users with a smoother and more cost-effective experience.
One of the challenges with Polygon and Ethereum lies in the gas fees associated with various actions. Leveraging Polkadot's Substrate framework technology, I'll be able to construct a scalable platform that operates at a much higher speed.
Instead of adopting a general-purpose blockchain like Ethereum, using Polkadot allows me to create a specialized chain that can better serve EON's purpose.
