Accessibility & Core Web Vitals: A Match Made in UX Heaven
We tend to think of web performance in terms of javascript optimization, or even virtual DOM and how it affects our lighthouse score. Many times I've seen product team ignore accessibility or use some of the necessary attributes but do a lot of client side interaction that can affect how screen readers interpret the web page.
The core Web Vitals are metrics that measure real-world user experience for loading performance, interactivity, and visual stability. For some users, interactivity and visual stability isn't what the eyes can see, or do with the hands.
Given these constraints, what if solving for accessibility can directly improve your core web vitals? Can the web vitals metrics help us improve the web experience for both abled and disabled people?
That's what we're going to discuss in this podcast and see what we can learn from Léonie.
Léonie is Director of TetraLogical, Chair of the W3C Board of Directors, and co-Chair of the W3C Web Applications Working Group.
Amongst other things, Léonie is co-organiser of the ]Inclusive Design 24 (#id24) conference](https://inclusivedesign24.org/), co-author of the Inclusive Design Principles, and mentor to young people interested in the fields of accessibility and inclusive design. She is also a Microsoft Most Valued Professional (MVP).
