2024 Product Release Highlights

2024 has been a transformative year filled with impactful product announcements and new features—marking a major milestone in our journey to redefine cloud infrastructure automation and management.

Importantly, this was the year we expanded env0’s capabilities past the “traditional trio” of IaC automation, collaboration, and governance—adding features to improve the monitoring and control of non-codified cloud resources.

As we prepare for an even more exciting 2025, here’s a quick look at some of 2024’s key product releases:

Cloud Compass: Cloud Asset Management

This year, we introduced Cloud Compass, a groundbreaking release that takes infrastructure management beyond IaC workflows. By combining Cloud Asset Management (CAM) with actionable insights, Cloud Compass provides enhanced visibility into all cloud resources—codified and non-codified alike.

By monitoring all cloud assets, Cloud Compass detects and prioritizes risks, including inconsistencies from manual operations. It empowers organizations to codify unmanaged resources, aligning them with best practices and governance policies.

Drift Cause Analysis:  Who, What, When, and Why

Drift Cause is a breakthrough capability that delivers unprecedented insight into the origins of infrastructure drift.

Built on the powerful foundation of Cloud Compass, Drift Cause enables env0 users to track configuration drifts back to their source, revealing the ‘who’, ‘when’, and ‘why’ behind the change that caused the discrepency.

Environment Discovery: A Better Way to GitOps

By bridging Git workflows and env0, Environment Discovery simplifies and improves how teams manage IaC resources.

The feature automatically scans Git repositories, identifies IaC configurations, and enables the creation of environments in env0 directly from your codebase. This streamlines onboarding reduces manual effort, and ensures that all environments align with organizational governance policies and workflows.

Environment Outputs: Easy Dependency Management

Environment Output Variables enhance workflows by simplifying the management of complex dependencies between environments.

This enables teams to securely share sensitive values as outputs, pipe data to dependent environments, and avoid the need for complex scripting or external data sources. By streamlining data sharing, Environment Output Variables improve efficiency and ensure consistency across infrastructure management.

Backstage Integration: Productivity AND Governance

The env0 Backstage plugin seamlessly integrates IaC management into Backstage, enabling developers to create, deploy, and manage cloud environments directly from their internal developer portal.

This self-service capability enhances productivity by letting developers handle infrastructure tasks within their familiar workflows. Meanwhile, admins can maintain governance by configuring templates and policies that ensure deployments adhere to organizational standards.

Ansible Support: Expanding IaC Tooling

With the addition of Ansible Support, env0 now enables teams to integrate configuration management workflows into their IaC strategies. This update provides greater flexibility for managing post-deployment configurations and provisioning resources.

Self-Hosted Remote Backend: Enterprise Compliance

The Self-Hosted Remote State feature provides organizations with full control over their Terraform state files by hosting them within their own infrastructure.

This solution is ideal for enterprises with strict compliance or security requirements, as it ensures that sensitive state data remains within their control while leveraging env0’s orchestration capabilities.

Modules CI Testing: Safer Deployments

Managing IaC modules at scale requires confidence that changes won’t introduce unexpected issues. With Modules Continuous Integration (CI) Testing, teams can automate the validation of module changes before deployment.

This feature ensures that updates are thoroughly tested within a controlled environment, helping to identify potential issues early and reduce risk in production environments.

Variable Sets: Ensuring Consistency

Managing environment variables is a critical part of IaC workflows, and Variable Sets simplifies this by centralizing reusable variable groups.

Teams can now define variables in one place, ensuring consistency across environments and reducing repetitive work. With Variable Sets, updates are easily applied across multiple environments, saving time and improving efficiency.

Other Honorable Mentions

in 2024 we also introduced multiple features designed to enhance user experience, productivity, governance and other aspects of our product.

Here are some of those additional highlights:

The Road Ahead

Building on the advancements made last year, our 2025 roadmap focuses on helping enterprises navigate the growing complexity of managing modern cloud environments.

As infrastructure becomes more intricate and distributed, we have plans in place to further expand visibility, enable even more precise controls, and deliver intelligent solutions that improve how teams manage and scale their operations.

Stay tuned!
